In 2018 we supported a Habitat Build for a local family and offered the chance for employees to go and help build on company time for a 1/2 a day. Many took us up on this offer and we were able to make a big difference in the life of this family. Here is an email from Melissa Meeks who was about to participate.
Dear Williams Family,
I wanted to share with you the pleasure I got today from working at the Habitat for Humanity house.
I was off for vacation Monday, Tuesday, and half a day Wednesday. After missing 2.5 days, I can not lie, I was not looking forward to leaving the office to go and work on someone else's house. I felt that I needed to be here in the office, making phone calls and playing catch up. I stressed out this morning on the way to work on what my compliance numbers were going to look like and again, was thinking very negatively about the situation. But, I knew I had to go, not only because I had signed up, but also because Alice would probably come and drag me out of my chair for cancelling again.
Upon arriving and having lunch, it was shared as to how Habitat works and that there are companies such as Williams and Fudge who donate money to get homes built. The contractor said that Williams and Fudge donated $10,000 to this particular home. It came apparent to me that if a company is willing to donate their money, I should be thankful and happy to donate my time. We were able to hear from a gentleman who has a home that will be built soon here in Rock Hill. It was very special to see his grin when talking about owning his own house.
These are the typical things that you here about.... However, I gained more than that today from the build. I was able to work with people that I don't normally work with. We were able to laugh because we just followed the directions given and definitely had no clue what we were doing. Us girls would not accept help from the men that were around because we were perfectly capable of moving things. We found out that Martha Vess snorts when she laughs, and Sam Heath isn't scared of mice.... especially ones that go from city living to moving over to the "hood". Yes, all the great things from building a home are wonderful, but what I took from today was that "Good people volunteer and each of us there are good people."
Thank you (again) for allowing me to work at a company who makes me work hard, play, and most importantly today, give. I am truly thankful to be a part of the Williams and Fudge family.
With Warmest Regards,
Melissa A. Meeks
